Can A Yoga Practice Help Your Golf Game?

My nearly 10-year old son is obsessed with golf!

The other day I was watching Daniel at the driving range and noticed how fluidly he moves.

At such a young age he has natural functional flexibility--a combination of mobility or range of motion around a joint site and flexibility which is defined as muscle elasticity.

Functional flexibility is not about getting your leg behind your head it is about being able to move our bodies efficiently and with ease, the way they were intended. For a golfer, this means increased flexibility to improve your swing power and consistency, increased core strength, relief from lower back pain due to repeated spinal rotation and breath control.

I also noticed that Daniel has an ever so slight tendency to round his back as he was hitting balls. Poses such cobra pose can help counteract hours of hunching and bending down at the course and can improve overall posture.

I can already think of a dozen or more yoga poses that I will be teaching him over the next few months so he can learn now and practice into adulthood so he does not lose that fluidity.

Do you have a golf game or know of someone who does and might benefit from yoga?  If so, reach out to me and I will teach you yoga poses to support your game!
